| Methods and Materials My pottery is made of either stoneware or porcelain and is all hand made. I fire it in a
wood kiln which is designed to be fueled solely with scrap wood left over from pallet making.
Since this wood would otherwise rot, this seems to me to be a particularly environmentally-
sound type of fuel. The wood also completes the decoration of my work. When I make a pot
and place it in the kiln, I want the flame to touch that piece, modify the clay and add ash and
minerals to the surface to create a pattern that will complement that particular pot.
Because the wood comes from many different trees grown in different soils, it combines with
clays in different ways to make each piece of pottery unique.
My glazes are lead free and my pots are designed to be microwave and dishwasher safe.
